I-Beam Bonanza
The trill of my phone interrupts the trance-like state I’d slipped into while sweeping out the shop. It was a slow week. Hell, if I’m being honest, it was a slow few weeks. Little jobs trickled in here and there but nothing substantial. I’d resigned myself to busy work just to keep the irritation of boredom at bay.
A Canadian number flashes on my phone’s screen. I hesitate answering. I don’t know anyone in Canada. But something tells me to just answer the damn phone.
On the other end of that line was an opportunity. An opportunity I had never even considered. A solar field is being built north of the Harlingen airport. They have 20-foot I-beams. They need 16-foot I-beams. That’s where I come in.
Semi trucks delivered the I-beams to my front door. Stack after stack was stowed wherever I could find a place to put it. And, naturally, the day trucks show up so does the rain … and we haven’t put gravel down yet.
So, after thoroughly trashing my yard, I begin cutting beams. One after another.
It’s the largest job we’ve done to date. I really hope we get more big jobs. I’m available. Call me!
Seriously, though, I appreciate the opportunity.
The beams are loaded and ready for delivery this week. Did I mention I deliver? There’s an additional fee, but it is an option.
Big and small, we do it all!
